主讲专家简介：

James W. Tollefson教授现任职于香港大学教育学院，是美国华盛顿大学荣休教授，先后就读于西雅图大学英语系（B.A）、普度大学英语系（M.A）以及斯坦福大学语言学系（Ph.D），在语言政策、教学语言政策等研究领域享有国际盛誉，出版专（编）著14部，发表论文100余篇，受邀在国际上做学术演讲及报告近百场。Tollefson教授曾在美国、日本、泰国、菲律宾、斯洛文尼亚等国的多所高校任教或工作、同时他还担任Asia-Pacific Education Researcher, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, European Studies on Multilingualism, International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, International Multilingual Research Journal, Journal of Language, Identity, and Education, 以及TESOL Quarterly等国际著名刊物编委。

讲座内容：

Many scholarly studies have examined the impact of globalization on language worldwide, particularly the spread of English and the loss of indigenous languages.  Less attention has been paid to competing discursive representations of globalization and language in policy texts and public discussion about language policy.

This session examines the representation of ‘globalization’ and ‘language’ from a historical perspective, with the aim of exploring the links between English promotion policies, language policy responses to globalization, and national cultural identities.  The presentation includes three parts:  (1) a historical analysis of shifts in language policy research; (2) a framework for analyzing language policies; (3) analysis of sample texts.
