主讲专家简介：

James W. Tollefson教授现任职于香港大学教育学院，是美国华盛顿大学荣休教授，先后就读于西雅图大学英语系（B.A）、普度大学英语系（M.A）以及斯坦福大学语言学系（Ph.D），在语言政策、教学语言政策等研究领域享有国际盛誉，出版专（编）著14部，发表论文100余篇，受邀在国际上做学术演讲及报告近百场。Tollefson教授曾在美国、日本、泰国、菲律宾、斯洛文尼亚等国的多所高校任教或工作、同时他还担任Asia-Pacific Education Researcher, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, European Studies on Multilingualism, International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, International Multilingual Research Journal, Journal of Language, Identity, and Education, 以及TESOL Quarterly等国际著名刊物编委。

讲座内容：

Social scientists have long been interested in the role of language in various forms of interpersonal, cross-cultural, and social conflict. This session focuses on the role of language policy in creating or mitigating such conflicts.  The presentation includes an overview of theoretical frameworks for analyzing language and conflict, as well as a typology of policy responses.  We then turn to a recent case: the role of language policy in the formation of new states in southeast Europe.  The session ends with an analysis of the policy options available and the key challenges for policymakers.
